Walk On

Ha ha, I like that title because it sounds like I’m saying, “Rock on.”  The paper said that we got 4.68 inches of rain last night, but today the sun has come out and it’s quite beautiful.  Alex and I went for a walk and spontaneously decided to be deviant.  We walked once around the block and then decided to just keep walking down down the road.  We walked a mile down the road (always staying on the ‘wrong’ side of the road so any cars could see us coming), took a detour down a back road and then back home.  2.89 miles later we were home.  It was quite lovely for a few reasons.  First of all, if you walk away from the finishing point then you have no choice but to walk back home.  On the other hand, if you walk a million times around the block then you have the temptation of stopping each time you pass the house.  For another thing, the change of scenery is nice.  I have driven that road about a million time in the last 8 years, but I see things differently when I’m afoot.

In the last week I have walked/jogged 12.4 miles!  Is that a personal record for me?  I think so.  I’m up to 86.93 miles and today is the 130th day of the 2013.  I have a great feeling that the summer weather is going to be nothing but motivating for me to keep racking up the miles.  The time I spend with Alex on our walks, the exercise I give my body, the boost to my mental health and the sense of achievement when I see how far I’ve gone… it’s just really really great.

Alex seems to really be enjoying our walks.  I just can’t express how grateful I am for her awesome stroller.  Want to hear something pretty cool?  Someone very kind blessed with her stroller because insurance wouldn’t pay for it.  Now I get to pass on the blessing to another family in a similar situation.  Well, I have the privilege of representing Happy Like This in passing on such a blessing.  Last month we were able to help a new mom and dad pay for a plane ticket so that they could both go to Philly with their new baby to see a specialist.  This month we get to bless a special little girl with a ride as cool as Alex’s.  HLT is also being given some new Beanie Babies to give as cuddly gifts to special kiddos.  Let me take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who have/do/will support Happy Like This with your gifts and prayers.  Our mission of sharing the joy of Christ with special families is possible because of you.  Your kindness does not go unnoticed and your gifts are making a special difference for some very amazing kids and their families.
